Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) was one of those people -- but just announced that he would whip Democratic senators to OPPOSE all amendments, including a public option amendment, if offered on the Senate floor. Voting against the public option after promising to vote for it would be outright betrayal.
