States have stepped up where Trump and Republicans in Congress have not – passing laws to stop AI chatbots that push kids toward self-harm, block AI discrimination against workers, and protect families from deceptive AI systems.

All this could be erased by a secretive bill Republicans are rushing through Congress with the help of one Democrat: Rep. Lori Trahan of Massachusetts.

This bill could override state laws and hand enforcement to the Trump administration, letting Big Tech off the hook for any harms they cause.
